POSTDOCTORAL POSITION – Plant Biology – the University of North Carolina at Charlotte
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Song lab at the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte focuses on understanding genetic basis of complex trait variation related to agriculture and human health integrating omics, molecular genetics, biochemistry, and evolution in wild soybeans. We are seeking a well-motivated postdoctoral research associate to lead research projects that focus on dissecting the genetic basis of soybean cyst nematode (SCN) resistance. The researcher will be responsible for the evaluation of wild soybean genotypes and mapping populations for SCN resistance, identify the molecular markers associated with quantitative trait loci (QTLs), and functional validation of candidate genes. The researcher is expected to interpret and analyze the data and publish results in peer-reviewed journals. This position is available for one year and renewed in subsequent years contingent upon funding and performance. The candidate must be passionate and hard-working, able to create an environment that fosters diversity, and able to work in a multi-cultural setting.
- Ph.D. degree in plant science, plant pathology, or a related subject.
• A basic knowledge of quantitative genetics.
• A basic knowledge of plant diseases.
•Working experience in mapping population construction, whole-genome genetic mapping, QTL analysis, DNA cloning and sequencing.
•Proficiency in using genetic mapping software and tools.
•Ability to work independently and as a team member to accomplish the research goals.
•Excellent communication skills, including written and oral communication.
- Bioinformatics skills handling next generation sequencing and genotyping data;
- Prior experience and expertise in greenhouse of pathogen diseases of soybean;
- Soybean hairy root transformation or soybean transformation experience.
