Collaboration with the German Language and Culture Foundation
The UNC Charlotte German program has been generously supported by the German Language and Culture Foundation since 2010. Each year the foundation offers scholarships for UNC Charlotte German Majors to study in Germany at a Goethe Institut. Students receive $2000, which covers approximately half of the cost of studying for one month in an intensive language course and living with a host family.
Over the last five years, the German Language and Culture Foundation has donated $196,000 to support the study abroad experiences of 98 German Majors. In 2015, six students who are Engineering and German double Majors will study at the Summer Institute at the University of Kassel, where they are able to take German language and an engineering module, supported by a GLCF scholarship. In addition, 20 students will study at a Goethe Institut and two students receive a scholarship for a student-faculty collaborative research project.
German at UNC Charlotte continues to grow. We grew from 30 majors in 2010 to 110 majors in 2014, all due to the generous support of our program by the German Language and Culture Foundation.
