My current research is in two areas.
Humor Research: I am interested in the role that humor and individual humor styles play in impacting psychological well-being and interpersonal relationships. Although people often identify a good sense of humor as a highly desirable characteristic, we still do not fully understand what it means to have a good sense of humor. Since not all humor uses are socially desirable, identifying the forms and appropriate uses of humor is critical for understanding the impact that humor can have in our lives.
Posttraumatic Growth Research: In the process of dealing with highly stressful life events, many people report positive psychological changes that emerge from their struggles. The Posttraumatic Research Group (http://ptgi.uncc.edu/) is involved in trying understand when and how these growth experiences occur and in identifying strategies to facilitate growth.
